When runners hear the name Do-Win, many in Vietnam recall the brand’s legendary, “indestructible” training shoes from the past. Known for their thin, firm midsoles, aggressive grip, and legendary durability, they were staples for early-gen runners and military training alike. However, in the era of supercritical foams and carbon plates, Do-Win has stepped up to the plate. The Speedster 4 is clear evidence of their push toward modern, performance-oriented technology.
Despite the name “Speedster” hinting at raw, explosive speed, putting these through several hundred kilometers of testing gave me a different perspective. This is a true racing and speed-training shoe with a rigid carbon plate, designed for demanding sessions like Tempo runs, intervals, or steady-state Long Runs.
As a smaller-framed runner, I prioritize stability, ankle protection, and confidence on the road. Here is my objective review of the Do-Win Speedster 4 after extensive testing on asphalt and concrete.

First Impression: Performance Over Plushness
Out of the box, the finish is clean with no messy glue lines. The “Torpedo” silhouette looks sleek and aerodynamic. At 198g, it feels substantial enough to offer support without being a burden during long efforts.
Stepping into the shoe, the “planted” feel is immediate. The SUDER F³ foam paired with the T700 ET carbon plate doesn’t feel like the mushy, trampoline-like Peba foams found elsewhere. Instead, it feels firm, controlled, and well-structured.
During a 3km warmup, the shoe felt incredibly stable. While the firm characteristic required a short adjustment period, the high rocker geometry does the heavy lifting. It rolls the foot forward naturally, reducing the need for excessive ankle engagement.
Upper and “Torpedo” Fit
The Do-Win Speedster 4 is true to size (TTS). I felt no toe jamming even during steep descents.
- Torpedo Fit: It wraps tightly from the midfoot through the arch. This secure hold eliminates internal slippage, even during sharp turns.
- Toe Box: Form-fitting rather than roomy. It is not as spacious as a daily trainer, but sufficient to prevent rubbing in the heat.
- Tongue & Heel: The gusseted, thin tongue features an anti-sweat membrane to prevent moisture buildup—a clever touch for long summer runs. The heel counter is rigid and locks the ankle down perfectly.
- Compatibility: Best for narrow to medium-width feet. Wide-footed runners should be cautious.

Decoding the SUDER F³ Foam and T700 ET Carbon Plate
The 39mm/32mm stack height provides a firm ride.
- Non-Newtonian Feel: Interestingly, at a slow jog, the foam feels compliant. Pick up the pace, and it firms up, providing a stable platform rather than sinking into the foam.
- Energy Return: While not a “bouncy castle” experience, it is highly mechanical and efficient. The combination of the asymmetric plate and dual-density foam creates a crisp, decisive toe-off.
Stability and Cornering
This is the shoe’s standout feature. Unlike many high-stack racers that feel wobbly, the Speedster 4 is exceptionally stable. The combination of the firm foam, rigid carbon plate, and the cutout exposing the plate provides absolute control. It prevents the foot from twisting, saving your ankles from fatigue during high-mileage efforts.
The Ride and Performance
- Transitions: The aggressive rocker ensures a fluid roll-through. As soon as you plant your foot, the geometry forces you into the next step.
- Pace Versatility: It thrives at 3:00 to 5:59 min/km. At high speeds (3:xx - 4:xx), the 198g weight and carbon plate make strides feel snappy. At moderate paces (5:xx), the firm foam keeps your form disciplined.
- Avoid Recovery Runs: The rigid carbon plate does not work for slow, recovery-pace running (6:00+ min/km). Trying to run slow in these will feel harsh on your calves and feet.
- Distance: Perfect for 10K and Half Marathon. A full marathon is doable for lightweight runners with strong legs, but the firm ride may lead to foot fatigue for others over 42km.
Breathability and Durability
Upper
The engineered mesh is highly breathable. The material holds its shape well, and the sweat-proof tongue lining keeps the shoe feeling fresh.
Outsole
The dimpled CPU rubber provides excellent traction on dry asphalt and concrete. It bites into the road, and the durability is top-tier—likely good for 800-1,000km.
Final Verdict
The Do-Win Speedster 4 blends old-school durability with modern carbon tech. It is not a “plush” shoe, and it isn’t meant for easy days. However, for Tempo runs, Intervals, and Long Runs, it is a reliable workhorse. Given the potential sale price of ~2,000,000 VND, it is arguably one of the best value-for-money carbon racers on the market.
