Section 1: Introduction

In the 2026 landscape of versatile shoes designed for both light training and daily travel, the Anta Travel PG7 series has consistently drawn interest for its accessibility. Following the second generation, Anta has launched the Anta Travel PG7 3. This iteration focuses on refining the midsole to deliver a lighter and softer experience. However, setting aside the marketing fluff, putting them through their paces reveals a distinct divide between a comfortable travel shoe and a serious running shoe.

As a mid-pack runner, standing 1m65 and weighing 57kg, I don’t put excessive force into the midsole, but I am very sensitive to the “liveliness” and energy return of the foam. A good daily trainer shouldn’t just be soft; it needs a responsive, snappy ride to support your gait. Taking the Anta Travel PG7 3 out for 3km to 10km runs, while I appreciated the weight reduction and comfort for walking, I quickly hit the physical limitations of this foam when picking up the pace.

The Anta PG7 Travel 3 isn’t a high-performance burner; it’s a shoe built for walking and traveling that offers light, casual running support. Let’s dive into this honest review to weigh the pros and cons before you open your wallet.

Section 2: Specs & Key Upgrades vs. Travel 2

To keep things simple, here are the actual hardware specs for the Anta Travel PG7 3 (based on a US Men’s size 8):

  • Weight: Roughly 263g to 265g for a US 8. This is about 30g lighter than the Travel 2, making for a much easier lift-off.
  • Midsole: Upgraded to PG7 High Elast foam—softer than the denser Peak Gravity 7.6 foam found in the Travel 2.
  • Underfoot Feel: Soft with solid impact absorption, but the energy return is average; it lacks that signature “pop.”
  • Outsole: Features new Liquid Rubber A-Grip technology for improved traction over the standard A-Grip.
  • Surface Versatility: Performs well on asphalt, concrete, paved sidewalks, and even slick tiles.
  • Upper: A-Web dual-layer mesh with Sorona bio-fibers; softer and more breathable than the previous Haina Yarn.
  • Ideal Distance: Best for short-to-medium runs between 3km and 10km.
  • Primary Use: Daily walking, travel, and recovery jogs.
  • Target Pace: Suited for slower paces (5:00/km and up).
  • MSRP: Currently 2,000,000 VND. A fair sale price is between 1,200,000 VND and 1,500,000 VND.

Section 3: Deep Dive: PG7 High Elast Foam – Soft but “Lifeless”

Marketed as a major step forward, the PG7 High Elast foam offers two very different experiences depending on whether you’re walking or running.

When walking or light jogging, the midsole excels at dampening, providing a deep, cushioned feel. It does a great job of absorbing the harsh impact of asphalt, sparing your ankles and knees. It is noticeably softer than the firm Travel 2.

However, when I upped the tempo, the core flaw emerged: the ride feels lifeless. The PG7 High Elast foam favors mushy softness over the punchy, high-rebound energy return found in nitrogen-infused or high-end TPU foams. The energy is absorbed by the foam rather than being returned, resulting in a flat, sluggish transition. The shoe doesn’t “push” you forward, making high-effort running feel more demanding than it should be.

Section 4: A-Web Sorona Upper & Lockdown

  • A-Web Dual-Layer Mesh & Sorona Fibers: The upper is a highlight. The combination of the A-Web structure and bio-based Sorona fibers is incredibly soft. It flexes naturally with the toes without causing hot spots or irritation.
  • Breathability: Well-placed vents in the toe box and midfoot allow for consistent airflow. Testing this in the humid Vietnamese climate, my feet stayed dry and comfortable.
  • Heel Lockdown: The heel collar features plush padding that grips the heel securely. Once the laces are tightened, the midfoot lockdown is decent. However, due to the soft knit material, the structural hold during sharp turns is only average—sufficient for straight-line running, but not top-tier.

Section 5: Real-World Testing (3-10km)

  • Slow Paces (6:00 to 7:30/km - Easy/Recovery): This is where the shoe shines. At a casual pace, the lack of “pop” isn’t an issue. The soft cushioning makes for a very comfortable, stress-free experience.
  • Moderate Paces (5:00 to 6:00/km - Base Miles): Thanks to the 30g weight reduction, maintaining these paces is tolerable, but the lack of responsiveness becomes apparent. You have to rely more on your own quad strength to maintain speed rather than relying on the shoe for assistance.
  • Distance Limit (3-10km): It performs best in this window. Pushing into long runs over 10km, the lack of rebound causes your feet to fatigue as they do more of the work.

Section 6: Weight Suitability

  • Under 60kg: The shoe works well. At 57kg, I don’t compress the foam to the point of bottoming out. For slow runs (5:00/km+), it provides a soft, cushioned ride, even if it isn’t “bouncy.”
  • Over 60kg: This is a concern. For runners 65kg-85kg+, the foam might compress too much. This makes the ride feel sluggish and raises questions about long-term durability. There’s a high risk the foam could bottom out or lose its protective properties prematurely.

Section 7: Walking & Travel Performance

Where the PG7 3 falls short in running, it makes up for in daily wear. For walking or standing for long periods, the lack of aggressive bounce becomes an advantage, providing a stable, grounded platform. The flat geometry and soft upper make it a dream for high-step-count travel days.

Section 8: Liquid Rubber A-Grip & Durability

  • Traction: The Liquid Rubber A-Grip is impressive on everything from rough asphalt to slick, wet tiles. It handles slippery conditions with confidence.
  • Durability: The outsole is highly abrasion-resistant. However, the total lifespan depends on the foam. For light runners (57kg), you can expect 600km-800km. For heavier runners, the midsole fatigue is the deciding factor in how long these will truly last.

Section 9: Style & Versatility

  • Natural Height Boost: The chunky heel provides a subtle 3.8cm height increase.
  • Styling: The clean, minimalist design pairs easily with both Sporty Activewear (shorts and tees) or Casual Travel outfits (joggers or chinos). It’s an easy shoe to incorporate into a daily rotation.

Section 10: Value & Verdict

Summary: Travel 3 vs. Travel 2

  • Pros: 30g lighter; softer ride; improved A-Grip traction; comfortable A-Web upper.
  • Cons: Lifeless ride for running; potential durability issues for heavier runners; high launch price.

Buying Advice

At the MSRP of 2,000,000 VND, this is not an optimal purchase for a pure running shoe. However, as a hybrid travel/walking shoe that can handle light runs, it is solid if you find it on sale. Wait for the price to drop to the 1,200,000 VND - 1,500,000 VND range. At that price point, the shortcomings in energy return are much easier to forgive.

Final Score: 8.2/10. An excellent walking and travel shoe that is only an average daily trainer.
